Against all odds, Chet delivered a much stronger studio recording the very next day. Chet was sick after the duo recording, and Enrico Pieranunzi almost cancelled the concert that evening. In the end, Chet decided to play, and put on a fine performance. They were scheduled to record an album next day with Pieranunzi’s band, Space Jazz Trio, and Chet was on fine form. There’s a rare chance to hear Chet perform Miles Davis’ ‘Blue In Green’, from ‘Kind Of Blue’, and Chet takes the opportunity to slow the pace, lingering over the melody. ‘Old Devil Moon’ is taken at as faster pace than usual, and Wayne Shorter’s ‘House Of Jade’, a regular in Chet’s repertoire, is given a swinging reading. Another highlight is the title track, a tune that Chet had rarely played since it was recorded for ‘Embraceable You’ back in 1957, with Chet delivering a dreamy vocal. The CD version includes on extra track, ‘I Thought About You’, which sounds like a warm up, but is bizarrely placed first in the running order.
